Clone it out! A workshop for club members

If you regularly attend our competition nights you will no doubt have heard the immortal line “Clone it out” every time a judge spots something that offends their delicate eyes ! As is always the case with Photoshop there are many different ways to remove unwanted objects from an image be they small blemishes or larger objects that you couldn’t avoid in your composition. Obviously the Clone Stamp tool is one but there is also the Healing Brush, Spot Healing Brush (including Content Aware mode), Content Aware Fill, Content Aware Move tool and the Patch tool (in normal and Content Aware modes).

Which tools you have available will depend on which version of Photoshop or Elements you have but with the exception of the Patch tool which is currently confined to Photoshop, the others have been in Elements for several years, some for a great many years so everyone should have at least some of these tools to use.

An evening with wildlife photographer Tesni Ward

Professional wildlife photographer Tesni Ward  has built herself an enviable reputation as one of the foremost Landscape and Natural History photographers in the country. Based in the Peak District National Park, she regularly runs workshops and tours, not only to help others capture beautiful images and teach individuals the art of photography but also to give them the opportunity to experience how magical the natural world is.

Disappointment and exhilaration in equal measure are universal aspects of wildlife photography, and at 8.00 pm on Thursday 4th January 2018 at St Mary’s Church Centre, Moss Lane, Sale Cheshire M33 6GD, she is giving a talk entitled ‘Working with Wildlife’ all about how challenging yet rewarding wildlife photography is, and how it will push you to your limits and test even the most determined of individuals. Having a thorough understanding of modern photographic essentials, she will be enriching her talk by giving us an insight into the extraordinary techniques and skills she uses to achieve her images.

Take an image of the CheSTAR and you could win £250

To mark the return of the CheSTAR at the Cathedral, between 16th November – 7th January, the city’s Business Improvement District, CH1ChesterBID, is encouraging city visitors and local residents to snap their best photograph of the star and share it on Instagram or Twitter. The contest will be judged by the team at Camera Solutions on Frodsham Street and is open for anyone to enter.

An afternoon with Joe Cornish in Wrexham

The Catrin Finch Centre at Glyndwr University is ideally situated with ample free parking on site. It is just 10 minutes from the A55 at Chester, 3 minutes from the A483 junction 5, a 2 minute walk from Wrexham’s railway station and a 10 minute walk from Wrexham’s main bus station. An information pack with detailed directions and useful information will be added closer to the event.

Lord Mayor of Chester opens the ‘Conservation’ exhibition

On Thursday 14th September, the Lord Mayor of Chester, Razia Daniels, formally opened the Exhibition to celebrate 50 years since local authorities could designate ‘Conservation Areas’. This has enabled them to exercise control over what was demolished, what should be refurbished, and what new developments were permissable.

The Exhibition is in the Weslyan Centre on St John Street, Chester. Just past the main Post Office, and opposite M&S’s side entrance. It runs until 7th October and is open 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday. There is no entrance charge. 73 printed images are on display, and 170 images run as a slide show.
