To mark the return of the CheSTAR at the Cathedral, between 16th November – 7th January, the city’s Business Improvement District, CH1ChesterBID, is encouraging city visitors and local residents to snap their best photograph of the star and share it on Instagram or Twitter. The contest will be judged by the team at Camera Solutions on Frodsham Street and is open for anyone to enter.
The lucky winner of The Times Photography Competition will win a five-day photography tour of the Faroe Islands with the chance to capture the beauty of their majestic mountains, mighty cascading waterfalls, sweeping fjords, rugged beaches and tiny fishing settlements.
On Tuesday 31 October Chester Photographic Society scooped both the Print Battle Trophy and the Best Colour Print against stiff competition from clubs across Cheshire and North Wales at the annual competition held at a packed Grosvenor Museum,
Clubs from Birkenhead, Chester, Deeside, Ellesmere Port, Frodsham, Halton, Hawarden, Heswall, Hoylake, Mid-Cheshire, Mold, Nantwich, Wallasey and Warrington took part in the competition which was judged by the perennially popular Adrian Lines, MPAGB, FBPE, EFIAP, ARPS. Continue reading

The Catrin Finch Centre at Glyndwr University is ideally situated with ample free parking on site. It is just 10 minutes from the A55 at Chester, 3 minutes from the A483 junction 5, a 2 minute walk from Wrexham’s railway station and a 10 minute walk from Wrexham’s main bus station. Congratulations to Richard Barrett who won both the print and digital categories of the Chester and West Cheshire Conservation Trust Anniversary Photographic Exhibition which were judged independently by different people.
Richard’s winning images were of The Groves Chester and the stocks at Ince.
On Thursday 14th September, the Lord Mayor of Chester, Razia Daniels, formally opened the Exhibition to celebrate 50 years since local authorities could designate ‘Conservation Areas’. This has enabled them to exercise control over what was demolished, what should be refurbished, and what new developments were permissable.
The Exhibition is in the Weslyan Centre on St John Street, Chester. Just past the main Post Office, and opposite M&S’s side entrance. It runs until 7th October and is open 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday. There is no entrance charge. 73 printed images are on display, and 170 images run as a slide show.
